LA QUINTESSENCE DE L'HABILLEMENT MASCULIN
Often customers do not really know the difference between made-to-measure suits and half-sizes, and unfortunately brands use this to make commercial arguments that are not always accurate.
In practice, a bespoke suit (the large size) requires the tailor to create a new pattern specifically for each customer. The large size also means that the suit is made entirely by hand. This service is aimed at men who have a lot of time on their hands. You should be able to spend about two hours getting measured (by appointment), then two or three intermediate fittings of an hour each before you can put on your new suit 15 minutes later. Of course, this also comes at a price: count on about 3000€!
For the half-size, on the other hand, the tailor assumes an existing pattern and makes the corrections desired by the customer. Indeed, during the fitting in the shop, the specialised adviser makes all the changes to suit anatomical particularities (curved back, short sleeves, drooping shoulders, etc.) and the customer's taste (slim-fitting pair, cigarette trousers, etc.). Moreover, this method allows the customer to get a concrete picture of his garment. Tailoring is essentially done industrially, thanks to highly optimised software, and by integrating the adjustments before cutting. Moreover, some finishes can be done by hand. Then, four weeks later, we deliver a perfectly fitting garment, in the fabric you were missing, with all the customised configurations you want, and as a bonus, your initials embroidered. All this at a price close to ready-to-wear.
Half sizes are thus a new way of dressing, responding to the lifestyles of modern societies, which demand quality and customisation and are pressed for time.
